Motivation for Colony:
English settlers of Plymouth were looking for religious freedom. They did not like being forced to belong to the Church of England. The separatists wanted to separate from the Church of England. The separatists later became known as Puritans. Unlike the pilgrims, the puritans did not want to separate from the church, they wanted to purify the church and make it their own.

The Puritans settled 10 years after the Pilgrims. Unlike the Pilgrims, they successfully planted crops. The Puritans worked hard and had a variety of skills. The colony began to grow and grow. Approximately 20,000 people lived in the Massachusetts by by the 1940's. This region was called New England.
