Myrtle is a Painted turtle. She was given to me by a teacher at my last school. Her daughter bought Myrtle while she was away at college and decided that she didn't want to keep her any longer. So in December of 2005 she brought Myrtle to school and gave her to me. Myrtle was only about a month and a half old at that point and was about the size of a quarter. She didn't like it in our classroom because she was in a little tank by herself. For the first two weeks that I had her she hardly moved and refused to eat. I decided to put her in the tank with Bert and Ernie to see if they would get along and she seemed to come to life! She started swimming around and eating. Now she has doubled in size and is doing great! She really enjoys being in the large tank with the other turtles.
