Q: What is the agenda used for?
A: The agenda is a great communication tool. Your child will write each day's homework and the weekly spelling words in the agenda. I may also write notes to you and you may communicate small notes to me as well. It is important for you to read and sign the agenda on a daily basis. Please do not send transportation changes in the agenda.
Q: How may I purchase a prepaid lunch ticket for my child?
A: Prepaid lunch tickets may be purchased every morning after 7:15 in the cafeteria. Place the money or check for prepaid tickets in a sealed envelope with your child's first and last name, grade, and teacher labeled on the front.
Q: May I have lunch with my child?
A: If you would like to join your child for lunch, the cost for an adult lunch is $2.40. Please sign in at the office and get a visitor name tag. You may wait for our class outside of the cafeteria. Please say goodbye to your child as we line up to leave the cafeteria.
Q: Can I send in treats for my child's birthday?
A: This year Ms. In has asked that birthday treats be purchased in the school cafeteria. No outside treats will be allowed.
Q: Will my child have homework every night?
A: Homework is primarily given to practice skills and instill responsiblity in your third grader. It will be sent home Monday - Thursday. There will be math and spelling assigned every night and another assignment from another subject. After your child completes the day's homework, sign the agenda to verify that the homework was completed. Return all homework the next day (except for special projects). Homework completion counts for 10% of the final grade.
Q: What do I need to do if my child is sick and misses a day of school?
A: If your child is absent due to a sickness, please send a note when he/she returns in order for the absence to be excused. Make-up work for the day(s) missed will be sent home. You may also call the front office before 9:30 and request the day's assignments be dropped off in the office at the end of the day for you to pick up. It is to your child's benefit and responsiblity to make up missed work.
Q: How would you like to be informed that my neighbor will be picking up my child from school?
A: Any change in arrangements for going home must be done in writing. Do not depend on your child to tell me of a change. If I do not have a written note or phone message from the office, your child will go home as usual.
Q: I am going out of town in two weeks and I will leave my child with a close friend/family. Is this something that you may need to know?
A: If you plan a trip out of town and your child will be taken care of by grandparents or friends, please send me a note specifying the person I should contact in case of an emergency.
Q: I would like to monitor my child's progress closely throughout the year to be sure that they are staying on track. What is the best way for me to do this?
A: A sample of your child's work will be sent home every other Thursday. Please review the papers with your child and sign the folder. Return the folder and papers to school the next school day. The grades on these papers are the ones that will go into my grade book. They will be averaged at the end of the marking period to determine report card grades. This will let you know how your child is doing.
Q: What are the hours of the media center and how many books may my child check out at a time?
A: Your children know how to check out and return books to the Media Center. They may check out 2 books at a time. The Media Center opens at 7:15.
Q: May students to bring toys to class?
A: Please do not allow your child to bring toys or other articles not related to what we are studying to school. If they bring a toy then I may collect it and it will be your responsibility to pick the toy up. If students bring toys for after school programs, these must remain in their backpacks during school hours.
Q: What are the procedures that my child will follow if they arrive to school late?
A: Once in a while circumstances may cause us to be late but excessive tardiness is usually a great classroom distraction. Unless their bus is late, a student who is not in the classroom by 7:50 will be sent back to the office to sign in. It is much easier on everyone if your child arrives in the classroom on time.
Q: If my child needs to take medicine during the day is there a specific procedure to follow?
A: All medication, whether prescription or non-prescription is to be administered in the clinic only. If you send in medication for your child, please complete the medication permission slip and send it in also.
Q: We are going on a family vacation and I will be taking my child out of school for a week. How can he/she make up the work that he/she missed when they gets back to school?
A: If you plan to take your child out of school for any unexcused reason (family trip etc.) your child will have to make up the missed work when he/she returns to school. Please help your child to get missed work completed upon your return. I teach new things every day and don't want anyone to get behind.
Please carefully read the information about classroom rules and discipline. Our rules are built on integrity and respect. I emphasize the fact that "we are here to learn" and I will not allow inappropriate behavior. Please back me up in this important part of classroom management and character development. We have so much to accomplish in third grade!
